Use Your Cigna Plan for a Healthier Smile
Dental insurance is a precious resource for many people. Its focus on preventive care can reduce your chances of suffering from a major dental problem. If your teeth ever end up needing some repair work, your policy serves as a financial safety net. Indeed, you are fortunate to have your policy, whether you bought it on your own or have it as a benefit through work. But how can you get the most out of your dental insurance? Our team is ready to assist you. On this page, you’ll learn more about how we can help you understand and maximize your Cigna dental insurance.
Cigna Coverage Availability & Fees
Cigna offers a number of plans to individuals and families. The specifics of how your policy works depend on the choices you made when you signed up for your plan, whether you bought it on your own or you have coverage through your workplace.
Here is a general overview of how Cigna PPO plans work:
- You can visit any dentist. However, when you visit an in-network Cigna dentist, you are likely to pay much less out of pocket than if you choose an out of network dentist. Plus, since in-network dental offices are used to working with Cigna, they are in the best position to help you navigate your coverage.
- Your plan probably has an annual maximum. The annual maximum is the most that Cigna will pay out for approved services within a calendar year. Cigna’s most robust plan has an annual maximum of $1,500. Its basic preventive plan, however, does not have an annual maximum because its coverage is restricted to only preventive and diagnostic coverage. Our team can offer suggestions to help you get as much as possible out of your annual maximum. For example, it might be possible to break up a major treatment across two calendar years so you can leverage two annual maximums rather than just one.
- Your plan may cover preventive care at 100%. Preventive care includes things like biannual cleanings and exams. For basic restorative services (such as fillings), you may pay only 20% of the cost. For major services (such as root canal therapy), you will likely pay 50% of the cost.
